It appears that after years of constant request from fans, Garbage Pail Kid creators Topps are finally gearing up for an all-new series of Cheap Toys! Teased on the GPK Facebook page over the weekend, the line is set to feature a whole host of famous characters sadly missed by the first round of toys- the first of which coming in the form of the pictured Janet Planet. Unfortunately it would seem that that the figures will be receiving the same vulgar  paint job as the late M.I.M.P/M.U.S.C.L.E releases, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that the fans will be able to sway the decision again with the option of monochromatic versions too… Stay tuned for more info soon!

A project almost 6 months in the making now, the mind blowing ‘Split Kit’ GPK Cheap Toy custom from Nolan JP appears to be nearing the final stages of production, with the reveal of the very first test pull over at Muscle Things… Based on one of our favourite Garbage Pail Kid trading cards designs, the half punk/half police officer has been meticulously sculpted in the original Cheap Toy style and scale, making him the perfect addition to the limited cast of original figures. Cast by Alec over at Muscle Things in his ‘Black Magic’ rubber, expect to see the little guy hitting the MT store soon in a number of different colourways. Pricing is still TBC, but expect to pay between $25-$30 plus shipping…

We very rarely feature toys outside of the indie/art toy scene, but upon hearing that Topps would be releasing a new Garbage Pail Kids mini figure series a couple of weeks back, we simply couldn’t resist sharing the full release details with you guys now that they’ve finally emerged! Rebranded from Cheap Toys to MiniKins, the new 1″ sculpts will be made from a soft, rubbery material that we’re hoping will sit nicely alongside the original 2 series. Aside from the name change, there will be a number of other differences from the original line, so without further adieu, we bring you a rundown of what to expect come the series’ launch this October-

  • 26 different mini-figures and stickers
  • Each “Single Blind Pack” will contain 2 mystery figures and two stickers
  • Each “Jumbo Blind Pack” will contain 3 mystery figures, 1 visible figure, and four stickers
  • Base version are fully-painted in multiple colors to match the original sticker
  • Chase versions are available in 4 different colors: Neon Blue & Neon Red (1:3 packs), Neon Green (1:4 packs), Neon Yellow (1:12 packs)

Stay tuned for more info on the hotly tipped comeback soon!

With ‘Kit Month’ coming to a close, Alec over at Muscle Things proves there’s still a ton of life left in NolanJP’s Split Kit, as he comes with the latest (and greatest!) colourway yet… the gorgeous 2-Tone! Based on the split-personality GPK character of the same name, the GPK Cheap Toy scaled figure has been double cast in a rather apt Novo Blue and Punky Purple using Alec’s infamous ‘black magic’ rubber. Unfortunately we still have no news as to whether this little guy (or other 2-Tone variants for that matter) will be hitting the Muscle Things store any time in the near future, but you can be sure that as soon as we hear anything, you guys will be the first to know!

Sticking with the Garbage Pail Kid theme today, NolanJP has revealed yet another awesome sculpt in the works inspired by the gross-out trading card series, the mighty Cyclops! Paying tribute to Ray Harryhausen’s iconic beast in 1958’s The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, the ingenious mash-up of monster and doll is already coming together nicely- with just the ice cream cone horn and club left to seal the deal! Coming in at around the same scale as the previously revealed Scary Larry (more on him later in the week), the 2.5″ figure should hopefully be seeing a release in rubber over the next couple of months. Keep track of the artist’s IG feed here for more updates soon…

With the SDCC exclusive “Toxic Timmy” going down a storm upon release back in July, Retroband has wasted no time in preparing the second instalment in the new GPK inspired “Retroband Kids” series, proudly presenting Slimy Sean! Pictured here as the very first test pull, the 2″ resin figure is likely to be presented in a similar fashion to Timmy, coming hand painted by the artist and packed on an authentic GPK-style trading card blister. Due to be released at Mondo Con on September 20th alongside a whole host of other Retroband/Worthy Enemies goodies, expect the full lowdown as we get a little closer to the event!

Teased here as a finished wax proto earlier in the month, Retroband‘s “Slimy Sean” mini figure has finally been revealed in full! The second instalment in the artist’s GPK-inspired “Retroband Kids” series, the 2″ figure follows a similar cult-horror theme as the first release, Toxic Timmy, this time around parodying Return of the Living Dead’s infamous Tarman to hilarious effect. Hand cast and painted by the artist, Sean comes packed on a GPK-style blistered trading card, complete with art from Retroband on the front, plus a 4 panel backstory from Worthy Enemies on the back. Due to touch down at the Retroband/Worthy Enemies Mondo Con booth (#T12) this weekend, full release details as still to be confirmed, although judging by the first release these are likely to be limited to 50, priced at $45 each…

Aaron Moreno aka Retroband has just revealed that the latest member of the hugely popular GPK-inspired Retroband Kids series – Creepy Kevin – will be making his debut very soon! Pictured here receiving his silicone bath ahead of resin production, the 2″ figure follows a similar cult-horror theme as the previous 3 releases, this time around parodying the classic Night of the Creeps to hilarious effect. Due to come hand cast and painted by the artist, we suspect that the little guy will be presented in a similar way as before, coming mounted on a Garbage Pail Kid style trading card with blister bubble. News on the release is still thin on the ground at the moment, but you can guarantee that the second we hear anything, you guys will be the first in the know…

It’s been a little while since we last featured the incredible talents of mini figure sculptor NolanJP, so it came with great pleasure over the weekend to find he’s back in the game with his latest piece, a stunning GPK-inspired skull! Coming in at around 0.75″ – a little over half the size of Nolan’s Split Kit micro – the meticulously crafted piece will be winging it’s way over to our very own Tru:Tek for a limited run of rubber key chains in the near future. Stay tuned for more progress over the next couple of weeks, and be sure to keep a lookout for details of the next run of Nolan’s Iceclops figure (residing in the back of the shot!) very soon…
